Repair to Austin Seven Crankcases (coil engines only).
It is not uncommon to find that the section of the crankcase that locates the front main bearings has broken. We provide a repair service which returns the crankcase to a fully useable state
Here we can see a front elevation of two Austin Seven crankcases. The crankcase on the left has part of it's bearing retaining lip broken, whereas in the case of the crankcase on the right the entire lip has been lost. These "lips" locate the front main bearings and it is essential that they are in good condition.
These views show the crankcase following repair.
The remaining part of the broken lip as been removed by machining. The crankcase is then drilled through the threaded holes used to retain the front bearing retaining plate. High tensile countersunk
And after repair .........
The Austin Seven Engine:
The Austin Seven was fitted with a four-cylinder water cooled engine with a detachable head. The bore was 2.2” the stroke 3” and the capacity 747.5cc. The 1935 engine produced 13.5 bhp at 3,000 rpm.
studs are then inserted through the new inner retaining plate and the crankcase.
The studs protrude at the front of the crankcase allowing the front bearing retaining plate to be secured with nuts.
Please note: We regret that at the present time we do not undertake repairs on magneto engine crankcases.
